BY CHRISTIAN DIOR (1946-1957)

Women, with their sure instincts, realized that my intention was to make them not just more beautiful but also happier.

Christian Dior founded his fashion house on 8 December 1946. His first collection, presented on 12 February 1947 in the salons of the company’s headquarters at 30 Avenue Montaigne, went down in fashion history as the “New Look”. Dior is quoted as saying “I have designed flower women.”

Actress Ava Gardner had 14 dresses created for her in 1956 by Christian Dior for the Mark Robson film The Little Hut. Christian Dior was also the exclusive designer of Marlene Dietrich’s dresses in the Alfred Hitchcock film Stage Fright.

You can find out more about Dior in the following literature: “Dior by Dior” by Christian Dior, “The Little Dictionary of Fashion: A Guide to Dress Sense for Every Woman” by Christian Dior, “Christian Dior and I” by Antonia Fraser, “Christian Dior” by Marie- France Pochna.
